What is a boogie?

Disciplines

A boogie is a skydiving gathering hosted by a drop zone, typically over a long weekend or a week. Extra aircraft are brought in, load organisers run jumps for visiting jumpers of different skill levels, and there is usually camping and an evening social side.

Why they matter in the sport

Boogies are where jumpers meet people outside their home drop zone, fly with organisers they would not normally access, and get on aircraft types their home DZ does not operate.

Some are long-running fixtures with decades of history, and for many jumpers the annual boogie is the centre of the season rather than an extra.

What to check before going

Boogies usually have their own requirements — minimum licence, jump numbers, currency — and registration often opens well in advance. Details come from the hosting drop zone.

This is background, not training

These pages explain what things are so the language makes sense. They are not instruction and cannot substitute for it — skydiving is taught in person by rated instructors at a drop zone, and anything involving equipment handling or emergency procedures belongs there rather than on a web page.
